Active outdoors – walking

Walking is one of the simplest forms of exercise and probably the easiest to incorporate into your family’s everyday life – walk the kids to school instead of driving or taking the bus, for example. If you live too far away to walk, try parking or getting off the bus a bit further away than usual, and walk the rest of the way.

Northern Ireland provides endless opportunities for walks suitable for all the family. We have loads of parks, great beaches, and wonderful National Trust properties to name just a few. Getting to places can be tricky if you don’t have a car but public transport links are improving so why not give the bus or train a go!

You don’t need special equipment, and you can also make a day of it – Northern Ireland has loads of scenic walking paths, both rural and urban. Check out www.walkni.com for more information.
